So its that time of the month again! Wait...I don't mean that... well I do...but that's not what I wanted to talk about. Wow. TMI. Um.... yeah.
So what I mean is "Yay, its the 22nd of August and that means only 4 months until the release of THE DARK DIVINE!!!!" And to celebrate? You guessed it-- CONTEST TIME!
But before we get into the contest, I have to tell you about something really cool. Hubby and I thought it would be really neat if we found some nail polish to match the girl on my cover's pedicure. Then we took the idea one step farther and said, well what if we actually found a manufacturer who could make THE DARK DIVINE nail polish? It seemed like a long shot, but we presented the idea to my publisher (who loved it by the way) and long story short, I give you THE DARK DIVINE nail polish!
Okay how cool is that? And I totally know that you want to know how you can get one for your very own. I mean, they are awesomely cute, don't you think?
Well, that's where the contest comes into play. And since the girl on my cover has beautiful feet (though oddly squarish toes), the grand prize this month includes a THE DARK DIVINE pedicure kit! (A foot file, a tub of peppermint smoothing pumice scrub, a bottle of peppermint cooling foot lotion, and a bottle of the nail polish.)
So here's how this month's contest will work:
Qualified participants will be entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes:
1. A pedicure kit complete with my new THE DARK DIVINE nail polish! + An autographed ARC of THE DARK DIVINE + $15 gift card to Barnes & Noble.
2. Signed copy of MY BIG NOSE AND OTHER NATURAL DISASTERS by Sydney Salter + Signed copy of LIFE IN THE PIT by Kristen Landon
3. A $30 gift card to Barnes & Noble
What's a qualified participant you ask? Well, you must be a follower of the blog or twitter to qualify, so if you are not already a follower....you know...become one :D. You must also earn a minimum of 5 points from the list below to qualify.
1. Already a blog follower= 4pts
2. Already a twitter follower= 2pts
3. Become a new blog follower= 3pts
4. Become a new Twitter follower= 1pt
5. Post a twitter update about contest= 1pt
6. Blog about the contest= 5pts (must be in a post)
7. Post a comment responding to the questions posed below= 2pts
To enter, and make sure I don't miss anything, please post a comment to this post with the URLs of your blog/twitter posts and totaling your points (While you're there, you might as well comment on the questions posed and earn a couple extra points too).
For every point you earn in addition to the 5 points needed to qualify, you get an additional name entry in the drawing. For example, if you are already a follower, blog about the contest, and also post a twitter update (10 points), you would get 6 entries in the drawing (1 for the 5pts to qualify and 5 more for the additional 5pts earned). Contest ends midnight Aug. 29th. I'll post winners the following day.
Now, as mentioned, you can respond to a couple questions to earn points toward the contest. So, I'm wondering loyal followers:
1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Now, go forth and blog and tweet and comment, and may the best readers win! (Oh, and as a side note, the "Favorites from SCBWI" commenting contest for Sherman Alexie's ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART TIME INDIAN and other books I picked up from the conference is still going on. I'll finish my stories sometime early next week. . . and then pick a winner for that contest shortly thereafter.)

1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
Another Faust by Daniel and Dina Nayeri: It gave me an insight into what lies behind the facade. It's not as pretty as it seems.
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
Spike from BtVS!
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Shapeshifter with all the powers. Why not? It's like you can get everything all in one package! :D
So I have been wanting to blog about your cool nail polish since I first laid eyes on it a few days ago, because honestly I think your purple nail polish is the cleverest little thing, and it really does match the cover art perfectly. But I haven't been able to post yet because I really wanted a cool picture of my own toes all painted to go with it, and well if you have ever tried to take a flattering picture of your own feet you will realize that it is next to impossible, and that enlisting your four year old to help will not work either (although he is sporting two lovely purple wee little piggy toes, because he just had to have painted toes too). Anyway so I'll work on it again tomorrow because I know I already have the nail polish (and I don't want to be greedy), but I am dying to get my hands on one of those ARCs so I will have to up my game, I might even have to break down and join twitter, although it does frighten me just a bit.

1. The last book I read that gave me a new perspective was 13 Reasons Why. Also Luna. Both are wonderful, eye-opening reads.
2. My favorite fictional bad boy was and will probably always be Spike. (RIP, Buffy. RIP.) He was bad ass and funny and hot, but also very humanized. It's hard not to love that.
3. My favorite paranormal creature: Hmm ... Most of the paranormal I watch on television or that I read is vampire, and that mostly stems from my love of Buffy. I know you didn't ask this, but shapeshifters are probably my least fav, b/c they make me so uncomfortable and I feel like I can't trust anyone to be who they actually say they are (e.g., Sylar on Heroes--he got a little too bad for me when he gained that power).

Right now... Patch from Hush, Hush - yum yum.
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
I really like Valkyrie - there's a Kresley Cole series that features a few of these creatures/characters. They are portrayed as fun loving girls who don't eat but love throwing popcorn while watching movies. Storms occur depending on their emotions and they supposedly eat lightning for nourishment.

1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
I'm reading the Jungle right now. It's just devastating. The same things (corruption, not taking are of the little guy, not caring for workers) goes on today. It feels like nothing changes, it just changes form. It made me want to do something!
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
I actually like Nathaniel from the Bartimaeus Trilogy. He's an anti-hero/hero. (And his djinni is sarcastic and disrespectful and wants to smite him.)
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Djinnis! They fly, they change shape, and have nearly limitless powers!
1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
Unwind by Neal Stusterman gave me a new perspective on abortion. This story was amazing and creepy at the same time.
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
Slyar on Heroes. YUM!
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?

1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective? I'd have to say Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater because the relationship between Sam and Grace was undeniably amazing. No matter how different they were their love connected them [Sam was a wolf and Grace was human]
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy? My favorite bad boy right now would be Patch from Hush, Hush because he's soooo sexy!
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why? Vampires because their is a quiet sexyness about them, the way they walk and glide, swift movements and great senses. Also, they scream sexuality even when it comes to the way the blood drink, well when it's not vicious lol.

1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
--I just finished up Cleopatra's Daughter, by Michelle Moran, and that gave me a whole new insight into not only Cleopatra, but also what it meant to be a war prize in Ancient Rome. I grew up learning about Ancient Rome (my bedtime stories weren't 'Where the While Things Are' or 'Goodnight Moon', they were essays on the Senate and how House Claudii was villiefied in history), but I've always loved Egyptian history so much more, so it was fascinating for me to see the two cultures clash so horribly.
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
--If we're talking a bad boy on the side of good, I would have to say Ash Redfern (from LJ Smith's 'Daughters of Darkness'). I can't help myself. Oh but Eric Northman (from Sookie Stackhouse books) is fast topping the list since he's unabashedly Amoral.
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
--Zombies. Is that weird? I mean Vampires are cool and ghosts are pretty awesome (I'm really not much for witches and shifters), but Zombies? OMG i've loved them forever and a day. BRAAAAAIIIIINNNNSSSS

2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
Hmmm...mind drawing a blank at the moment. How about Jack Sparrow? Or does he not qualify as a "bad boy" even though he's a pirate?
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Goodness. I guess the Twilight vampires (only them...I don't read much other vamp fiction). I like the Cullens because they're "good" vampires and kind and lovely people.

+2 for questions!
1. Right now, I can only think of one series that has made me look at things in a new way, and it might sound kind of silly but it's the Anita Blake series. It's the longest series I've ever read (and am still reading!) and even though it has alot of sexual content it's sort of the meaning behind it all. Different personalities toward how a person consider their personal space private or open for negotiation, if that makes sense.
2. Tie between Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series and Patch from Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush. Lol, tough decision.
3. I have to say that my favorite paranormal creature has to be a witch, this because two reasons.
One, ever since I was little I would look up spells and make my own Book of Shadows. Two, because of L.J. Smith's Secret Circle series, I absolutely love that series to bits!
Thanks for having the contest Bree!

Oh how fun is this!!
1. New Perspective-
Well, I recently read Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuehnert and made me see more of the overall world and the things that can hurt you. That's the main one that comes to mind at the moment at least.
2. Favorite fictional bad boy?
Oh wow, this is kind of hard for me actually. I love Dorian Gray in The Picture of Dorian Gray...not to be with, but he's so dark and fascinating, I mean!
3. Favorite paranormal creature?
I really like to read about vampires. I think elves are interesting and fairies can be great.

1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
Every book I read gives me some sort of new perspective and as weird as this is the last book I read was The Monsters of Otherness by Kaza Kingsley. It made me think about how sometimes the best thing to do is not always the easy way, but it's worth it in the end.
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
If we're going by books then...Draco. Can't help it. But if we are going by all mediums, then Jordan Catalano from My So-Called Life. He set a whole new standard for the "bad boy"
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Faeries and vampires. I've always had a thing for faeries and I've never been able to figure out why. And I've been loved vampites since Vampire in Brooklyn came out when I was like 6. They are sexy and dangerous and bad for you, but you just can't help it.

I am posting it on my blog tonight at 12:00am at this address http://cranberryfries.blogspot.com
1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
I am almost finished with Shannon Hales the Actor and the Housewife.
Definitely gives one a new perspective on something I believe. Married people having friends of the opposite sex, how much involvement you should have in your family's (as in brothers or sisters) life, how religion affects your choices (or how others judge you) etc.
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
I reread Princess Bride last week just love love Inigo's character. He's a bad boy to start since he's trying to steal Buttercup and all, but in the book (vs the movie) you get the background of why he's looking for the 6 fingered man. The boy has a tender heart.
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
I've never really thought I had a favorite but I read Shiver a few weeks ago and really enjoyed her type of werewolves, so I'd say that.
(Congrats on the fab new nail polish. What a completely adorable idea!)

1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
That would be Willow by Julia Hoban. It's been a long time since something affected me that way. Suddenly, being a teenager makes more sense.
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy?
Um, he isn't quite YA... but I'm going to have to go for Roarke from J.D. Robb's In Death series. At least he's the latest of my favorites... there's quite a list there.
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Werewolves. And I don't mean Jacob, I mean actual fictional werewolves. Because they're hot (pun intended). And because Derek (Darkest Powers series - Kelley Armstrong) and Sam (Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater) and Annette Klaus' Blood and Chocolate makes me think so!

The Vampire Lestat from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. He's a bad boy who is searching for his purpose and is ultimately good at heart (if vamps have hearts!).
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why?
Vampires because they are immortal and just think of how many books they can read!

Question 2- Well he's not to much of a bad boy but he does give off the bad-boy type! Lucas from Claudia Gray's Evernight series!
*swoon*
I love him!
1) The last book I read that gave me a new perspective...
Hmm, I'm not really sure. 'Obedience' by Will Lavender really makes you start to question a lot, I think.
2) Favourite fictional bad boy
Gosh, this is hard, because I'm a sucker for bad boys in books. I guess Kisten from Kim Harrison's books is a favourite, though.
3) My favourite paranormal creature?
Vampires, by far - that's why I write about them! I also love were-creatures - I love the pack dynamics. It always seems so much fun.

+3pts for becoming a follower
1. What was the last book you read that gave you a new perspective?
The Missing Ink actually gave me more thoughts on tattoo artists--it's not a deep perspective change or anything but it is one
2. Who's your favorite fictional bad boy? either Spike from Buffy or... nope, him
3. What's your favorite paranormal creature and why? vampires because there's so much to get from that myth--there's the religious side..the general 'bad boy' side, the evil but redemptiony side..they can just be really complex
